Bayimba Cultural Foundation, in partnership with Un-Convention, British Council and Mimeta, is hosting the 1st edition of DOADOA – a market initiative aimed at providing a further boost to the performing arts in East Africa – which will take place from 1st till 5th May, 2012 at BAX Conference Centre in Jinja, Uganda.

DOADOA will bring together and provide a platform for professional networking and joint learning of various stakeholders in the music industry (i.e. musicians, music producers, music promoters, managers, music festivals etc.). It will link people, organizations, businesses, knowledge and technology and create scouting, networking and exchange opportunities with a view to create demand and develop a market for the performing arts and unlock the potential of the East African creative industry, making it an important factor for economic, social and cultural development throughout the region.

We are delighted that the DOADOA programme also includes a workshop in Arts Journalism. This will workshop be held from the 2nd to the 5th of May and will be facilitated by John Robb from the United Kingdom. John Robb wrote for ZigZag in the 1980s and was a regular freelance contributor to Sounds in the late 1980s as well as writing for Melody Maker. He now writes for The Sunday Times, The Observer, The Guardian, The Independent, The Big Issue, several websites and magazines in Turkey, Algeria, America, Russia and Brazil. He also writes features for Chimp Magazine in Manchester in the United Kingdom.
