In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading.” The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. At TEDx events, unique talks given by live speakers combine with TEDTalks videos to spark deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis. While the content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed independently, all TEDx events have several features in common.
Speakers include the Makerere University Kiira EV Electric Car team, Ugandan visual artiste Bruno Ruganzu- 2012 winner of TEDx first prize City2.0 challenge, a 16 year old girl who makes liquid soap in the slum from where she gets to pay school fees for kids in her community, and Dr. Nabila Siddiqui of Daffodils Education Services.
