Perhaps you’ve been seeing various pictures depicting beautiful buildings, scenery, and the hustle and bustle of country life. Perhaps you also noticed the tag ‘#LamudiUGChallenge’. In case you’re wondering what that was about, let me explain.
Lamudi is Uganda’s largest online property portal with over 5000 listings, offering a real estate marketplace where sellers meet buyers and landlords meet renters, on a secure and easy-to-use platform that provides information they can use to find or list properties online. Launched in 2013, this fast growing platform is currently available in 28 countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, with 400,000 real estate listings across its global network.
Last month, Lamudi Uganda announced the launch of their social media campaign titled: #LamudiUGChallenge. The competition, which started as a showcase for Lamudi’s sizeable online following across Twitter, Facebook, & Instagram, has now become an invaluable platform for user interaction.
The submissions were centred on what was described as that Lamudi feeling #ThatLamudiFeeling, which Lamudi users now associate with homes. This development opened up the competition by allowing users to submit simply based on their surroundings in Uganda, and how they respond to their environment. This in turn allows the competition to take on an even more personal dimension to the challenge #LamudiWange and got the users to submit pictures in an effort to express their appreciation of nature. To beat the challenge, one had to receive the most likes/shares within the month of July. And surely, at the end of the month, some favourites had emerged.
The inaugural prize giving ceremony took place at the Lamudi offices on Mawanda Road in Kamwokya, Kampala on Thursday 7th August, 2014. Shakib Nsubuga, Managing Director of Lamudi Uganda, cheerfully handed out the prizes. The runners-up were Darlyne Komukama, Solomon King, and Maria Mbabazi, who were awarded won gift hampers. The winner for July was Kim Kasule, with over 500 likes for his picture. He was handed his cool 300,000 UGX.
The event was overseen by Aneesa Arshad, founder and CEO of Lamudi Uganda. Talking about the reason for the competition, she said, “According to oAfrica.com, right now internet penetration in Africa is over 50% and rapidly growing, making the feedback from social media wide and immediate. The feedback we received shows the interest in the challenge and encourages people to participate more to be in with a chance of being next month’s winner. We think it’s important to engage users through social media because it personalizes our interaction with them, and presents them with a two-way channel where they can be candid. This, in turn, lets us know what our customers are thinking and allows us to continually improve our service by responding to their feedback. In trying to encourage our users to use Lamudi as a tool of expression, we have found that their reaction to their environment has ended up giving us our identity by relying on the intelligence and tech savvy of our customer base which stretches across social divisions.”
Aneesa added, “This competition has only just begun and will continue as we encourage stakeholders from the realms of IT, media, tourism, commerce, and public information to make the most of this opportunity for dialogue and jump on board with this new platform.”
If you think you can be the next winner, get snapping! Get your picture on the internet and accumulate likes! It’s as simple as that. Share #ThatLamudiFeeling!
