The Mara Foundation Charity Date Auction is an energy packed night of fun bringing together young people who want to have a little fun in the spirit of Charity. And it is back this year after popular demand especially from those who came out to the event last year. This is where most of our corporate companies send us their most beautiful, talented, sexy and successful bachelors and bachelorettes to be auctioned off like rare pieces of art. The highest bidder gets to win a date and no one is left out in the bidding process remembering that it is all for a good cause.
The Mara foundation Annual Date Auction is a charity fundraiser dinner where volunteer eligible bachelors and bachelorettes are auctioned off for a date to the highest bidder. The last person to bid will be considered the highest bidder and therefore the winner of the date with the beautiful bachelorette or bachelor. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday 8th June 2012 at 6pm at Arirang Korean Restaurant in Nakasero, Kampala, Uganda. Tickets are available at the Mara Launchpad, 3rd Floor Ham Towers (Above new Tusky’s Supermarket Opposite Makerere Main Gate Wandegeya, Kampala). There are also a number of corporate sponsorship.
Only the most eligible bachelorettes and bachelors in town, we have a list of great personalities that we have ramped up who have volunteered their time to help serve a great cause. Bidders will be well informed before the auction begins. Hand out lists of the available bachelors and bachelorettes with short bios and descriptions of the date they’ll be taking the bidder on. Fun facts about each person will be included or a funny quote from them. Photos will also be included in the bio to help get people interested in bidding. As for the date, this is best left to the bachelor or bachelorette, and the person with the winning bid. After the auction, they can discuss a time and date that works for both of them so there’s no immediate obligation. This also gives them a little time to talk before the date actually takes place so it’s not as awkward as blind dates can often be…
The event raised a total of UGX 11,011,000 through the generous bids given by the audience, as well as the sponsorship given by corporate companies i.e. SMART TV, True African, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Mott MacDonald, and Fiduga. The money was used to erect water tanks at Sir Apollo Kaggwa SSS in Mukono, Wakiso and Nakaseke districts. The lack of water in the school had become crippling especially to the 35 visually impaired students that the school educates.
We shall be raising money to build a roof for classroom block in Katale Kamese Secondary School in Nakaseke district.
Katale Kamese SS is a community-founded school in a remote part of Nakaseke District which formerly lacked access to secondary education. The school was identified by the District Education Officer as one of the schools that urgently needed whatever kind of support from outside that was available, especially because it is a seed school and is facing several challenges associated to getting established as a new school. More info about the school is here Katale Kamese SS History.
The school was founded by the community in 2006 by parents. In 2009 the president visited the school and donated 50 million shillings which was used to construct the current structures that the school has. Despite this, the structures are inadequate and many classes take place outside.
Mara Foundation is fundraising on behalf of Next Generation Schools to support the school with roofing of one of their blocks, to create more usable classrooms in the school.
